Collection and blood-bank figures are from the first national assessment of blood banks in India (Indian Journal of Hematology and Blood Transfusion). Estimated need is from published research on blood access in India. Shelf life is as stated by eRaktKosh, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Blood Donor Pledge

I take this pledge freely and sincerely:

  1. I will donate blood voluntarily, without expecting money or any reward.
  2. I will donate again whenever I am eligible, and encourage others to do the same.
  3. I will answer every screening question honestly, so the blood I give is safe for the person who receives it.
  4. I will not let myths stop me — for a healthy adult, donating blood does not cause lasting weakness.
  5. I will spread awareness in my family, school and neighbourhood about voluntary blood donation.
  6. I will step forward when someone in my community needs blood, if I am eligible at that time.
  7. I will always respect the medical team's decision about whether I can donate on a given day.

Free forever. We do not ask for your blood group, and we never sell your data.

Before You Donate

General guidance published by India's National Blood Transfusion Council. The blood bank's medical team makes the final decision after screening you.

Who can usually donate

  • Adults roughly 18–65 years old
  • Body weight at least 45 kg
  • Feeling well and in good general health on the day
  • Haemoglobin above the minimum level, checked at the centre

Gap between donations

Whole blood is usually donated no more often than once every three months for men and once every four months for women, so the body has time to recover fully. The centre keeps track of your last donation date.

On the day

  • Eat a proper meal beforehand — never donate on an empty stomach
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Carry a photo ID
  • Sleep well the night before
  • Rest for a few minutes afterwards and have the refreshments offered

You may be deferred

Recent illness, fever, certain medicines, recent tattoo or piercing, pregnancy, breastfeeding and several other conditions can mean you are asked to come back later. A deferral is not a rejection — it protects both you and the patient. Ask the centre when you can return.

This page is general awareness information, not medical advice. Aimanthan does not assess your eligibility to donate. Only the medical team at a licensed blood bank can do that, after examining and screening you. If you have a health condition or take regular medication, speak to your doctor.

Myths That Stop People

Most people who never donate are held back by something that simply is not true.

MYTH "Blood donation makes you weak for months."
Fact: For a healthy adult who clears screening, the fluid volume is replaced within about a day. Most donors go back to their normal routine the same day. That is exactly why the gap between donations exists — so the body recovers fully.
MYTH "Mera blood group common hai, meri zaroorat nahi."
Fact: Common groups are needed most, because most patients have them. Hospitals run out of common groups far more often than rare ones.
MYTH "It is very painful and takes a long time."
Fact: The needle is one brief prick. The whole visit, including registration and rest, is usually around 30 minutes.
MYTH "You can catch an infection by donating."
Fact: Licensed blood banks use a fresh, sterile, single-use needle and kit for every donor. Nothing is reused.
MYTH "Blood can be manufactured in a lab if needed."
Fact: It cannot. Every unit a hospital gives a patient came from a person who chose to donate. There is no other source.
MYTH "Vegetarians cannot donate blood."
Fact: Diet is not a criterion. What matters is your haemoglobin level, which is checked at the centre before every donation.

Ready to Actually Donate?

Use the Government of India's eRaktKosh portal

eRaktKosh is the national blood bank portal run by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. You can search for licensed blood banks near you, check availability, find donation camps, and register as a voluntary donor — where your details stay with the blood banks and you control who may contact you.

We deliberately do not run our own donor registry. Storing people's contact details and blood groups in a public list is unsafe and unnecessary when an official, OTP-verified system already exists.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the certificate really free?

Yes. Taking the pledge and downloading the certificate is completely free. No payment, no login, no hidden charge.

Does this certificate mean I have donated blood?

No, and this matters. It records a pledge of intent. A certificate for an actual donation is issued by the blood bank where you donate. Please do not present this as proof of donation.

Why don't you ask for my blood group?

Because for a pledge there is no use for it. Blood group is sensitive health information, and these certificates get shared on social media. Collecting data we do not need would only create risk for you.

Why don't you have a donor registry to connect donors with patients?

A public list of names, phone numbers and blood groups is a serious privacy and safety risk, and stale entries in an emergency are worse than no list at all. The Ministry of Health already runs eRaktKosh, where donor details are shared only with blood banks and you control who can contact you. We send people there instead.

Can my school or college use this for a blood donation camp?

Yes, students can take the pledge before or during a camp. Remember that certificates for the actual donations come from the blood bank running the camp.

The download button isn't working on my phone.

Wait a few seconds for the certificate to load fully, then press Download again. If it still fails, take a screenshot, or open the page on a laptop. You can always return to your certificate later using its number in the Verify section.
